Net, VAT and gross
The calculator performs the arithmetic. The correct rate and invoice wording depend on the actual supply or service.
At 21%, gross equals net × 1.21. To extract VAT from a gross amount, divide by 1.21 and take the difference; simply subtracting 21% gives the wrong answer.
Rounding each invoice line can differ by a few cents from rounding the total. Choose one approach and apply it consistently.
The 0% rate remains a VAT rate; an exemption may restrict input-tax recovery. Under reverse charge, the customer accounts for VAT and specific invoice requirements apply.
For each return period, reconcile sales, output VAT, deductible input VAT and corrections. A separate bank-account balance does not replace the VAT records.
