Tax for keeping a vehicle
There is no universal monthly amount. Use the official calculator with the details of the specific vehicle.
You need vehicle type, fuel, mass and province of residence. Different amounts can apply to diesel, LPG and special vehicle categories.
From 1 July 2026 the tool may show ready-to-drive mass, 100 kg above the former unladen-mass field. Use the field requested by the current official tool; do not adjust it yourself.
Road tax is fixed even when the vehicle travels little. It can materially change the monthly comparison for a heavy car or diesel.
Calculate it separately for every vehicle and add insurance, depreciation, energy, maintenance and finance.
